Product Information

Overview

HRD Street Performance Dampers are engineered to meet the needs of enthusiasts seeking enhanced suspension performance without disrupting the refinement of their ride quality. Leveraging use of our Dual Duty Digressive Damper™ technology, the engineering team at HRD has accomplished our goal of creating the ultimate suspension for cars driven on the street while retaining incredible control over pitch and dive characteristics, allowing you to be track day ready. Our research and development process started with a blank slate, allowing our engineers to be fixated on developing the ultimate performance suspension within a vacuum.

Each set of our dampers features our proprietary stainless steel pillowball bearings, designed to increase longevity on cars driven in all weather conditions. HRD also utilizes our own titanium hardware including top hat studs and nuts, damping adjustment knobs, and our pillowball bearing collars. Electrophoretic deposition (EDP coating) is used on all of our shock bodies to further increase the longevity of our dampers in adverse climates.

All of our off-the-shelf kits feature spring rates that have been meticulously selected by taking into account shock travel, motion ratios, and harmonic frequencies transmitted from the road into the cabin during street and track use. We've intentionally selected spring rates that are appropriate for each chassis, giving a balanced and refined driving experience that inspires confidence without the need to overspring our suspension.

Each set of suspension from HRD features a monotube design utilizing our Dual Duty Digressive Damper™ technology. Digressive valving provides higher damping force at low piston speeds. This improves control during low-speed events such as cornering, braking, and acceleration, allowing for better vehicle stability and handling. At higher piston speeds, the damping force levels off, allowing for softer reactions to bumps, potholes, and other road imperfections. This ensures that the ride remains both comfortable and refined while maintaining excellent tire contact with the road for improved grip.

This technology has allowed HRD to create a suspension system that feels balanced and predictable under all conditions. It provides the stiffness needed for precise handling during performance driving and the refinement required for everyday road conditions.

HRD's monotube damper design separates the damping oil and gas chamber with a floating piston. This configuration dissipates heat more effectively, ensuring consistent damping performance during prolonged or intense use, such as extended track days. Our monotube design accommodates a larger piston, allowing for more precise and consistent damping control across the entire valving curve. This enhances the overall effectiveness of the suspension system, making it more responsive to both low-speed and high-speed events.

The culmination of our engineering efforts is a damper that feels at home whether you're on your daily commute, or chasing the podium on the weekend.

Technical Specs

Every Street Performance Damper includes our Dual Duty Digressive Piston™ design for a refined experience on the street, without detracting from your ability to chase the podium.

We leverage electrophoretic deposition (EDP) coatings on our damper bodies. This advanced coating method involves submerging components in an electrically charged bath containing epoxy or acrylic resins. The electric current evenly deposits the coating onto the component’s surface, even reaching intricate crevices and hard-to-coat areas. Once applied, the coating is baked to create a durable, uniform finish that is highly resistant to corrosion, chipping, and wear.

Swift Springs are celebrated as the pinnacle of suspension technology, thanks to their unique combination of material science and innovative engineering. The foundation of their superiority lies in their proprietary steel alloy, HS5.TW, which is lighter and more resilient than the silicon chrome steel alloys used by most competing spring manufactures. This also allows Swift to use less coils per inch on their springs, reducing unsprung weight from your suspension. Consequently, Swift Springs are the only spring offered for all HRD dampers.

Our top hats are Type II anodized and are adorned with our Titan Frost Ti studs, with bright polished titanium nuts included. Our 304 stainless-steel pillowball bushings resist corrosion in any climate, while providing as an excellent deterant to spring binding.

Dual Duty Design
The modern enthusiast asks their car to live two very different lives. It has to start every morning, survive traffic, and stay quiet enough to hold a conversation. Then, on demand, it has to feel sharp, confident and absolutely ready to hunt lap times or podiums.

At Happy Racer Development, that tension is not a problem to hide, it's the foundation of our Dual Duty philosophy. From dampers to drivetrain mounts to shifting hardware, every HRD component is engineered to operate across a wide spectrum of use, delivering real performance without sacraficing the ability to actually live with the car.

Refinement without loss of drivability is where Dual Duty truly differentiates itself. Anyone can make a part that feels extreme for a few laps; our goal is controlled, repeatable performance that you can live with every day.
